All prices are per person. Monastir has its own versions of the sunset ride, a sunrise ride and the horse swimming ride at €28.80, each with between none and three reviews. In the horse riding and camel ride category as a whole, listings start at €24. All the rides are on the horse riding and camel rides in Sousse page.
Why the ratings tell you so little
A 5.0 from two reviews does not show that a ride is better than one with 3.3 from fourteen. It is simply too early to know. The only listing with more than five reviews is the forest ride, and its 3.3 is the weakest score of the four, so read what its reviewers complain about before you book it. The sunset ride at 4.8 from 5 is promising but still thin.
Why one ride costs €51.28 and the others €28.80
The listings do not explain it. The expensive one is the only one that spells out the split, 30 minutes of riding and 30 minutes of swimming in a 2-hour slot, and it has no reviews. The cheaper swimming ride has the same name but a 2 to 3 hour window and does not break down the time. Before paying nearly twice as much, check how long you will actually be on a horse and whether transfers are included, since that is not stated.
Sunrise or sunset
Sousse’s beaches face east, towards open sea. The sun therefore rises over the water and sets behind the town. A sunrise ride on the beach gives you the light on the sea, and a sunset ride gives you warm light on the sand. Do not expect a sun sinking into the water on a Sousse beach. Both are also cooler than the middle of the day. Sunrise rides are listed for both Sousse and Monastir, so far without reviews.
What the listings do not say
None of the short descriptions states a minimum age, a weight limit, whether you need riding experience, whether helmets are provided, or how many riders go out together. The “horse swimming” rides raise further questions: how deep the water is, whether you stay on the horse, and whether you need to be a confident swimmer. Ask the operator before you book, and with children or a nervous rider choose the plain beach ride, not the swimming one.
Our recommendation
- For the beach: the sunset ride, at €28.80, after reading its reviews.
- For the swimming experience: only after confirming the points above in writing with the operator.
- For something slower: a horse-drawn carriage or camel ride from the same category, if riding itself worries you.
