Sousse with Kids: Which Tours Work for a Family and What to Check First
Updated October 22, 2026 · 5 min read
Families get the most out of Sousse on the water and with animals, and the first rule for every booking is the same: none of the short descriptions states a minimum age, so check it on the booking page before you pay. One new listing says it is “open to all ages”, but it is a package of several activities with no reviews, and the conditions may differ for each part.
On the water
The pirate boat tour with live show and lunch is the one that children will find most exciting on paper, at €27.84 per person, but it has only 6 reviews. The boat cruise with live show, swim and pickup lasts 3 hours and has 40 reviews at 4.6. The two-hour catamaran cruise with hotel transfers is the only one of the three whose description mentions no show, and the one with the most reviews, 4.3 from 71, with soft drinks and fruit on board. Details are in the pirate boat guide and the catamaran guide.
With animals
The camel ride and farm visit costs €33 for 3 hours and is rated 4.5 from 8 reviews. The description says you travel by camel or in a traditional carriage, visit a local farm and taste Berber bread fresh from the oven. The carriage option is the one to ask about with small children. The Friguia wildlife park ticket, at €35 and 4.3 from 14 reviews, includes hotel pickup, return transport and admission, and lets you visit at your own pace. The listing speaks of more than 60 species.
Horse rides are another option for older children, see our horse riding guide. The horse riding and camel rides in Sousse page has the full list.
The options side by side
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two-hour catamaran cruise with hotel transfers | 2 hours | €31.20 | 4.3 from 71 reviews |
| Boat cruise with live show, swim and pickup | 3 hours | €39 | 4.6 from 40 reviews |
| Pirate boat tour with live show and lunch | 4 to 5 hours | €27.84 | 4.5 from 6 reviews |
| Camel ride and traditional farm visit | 3 hours | €33 | 4.5 from 8 reviews |
| Friguia wildlife park entry with pickup | 3 hours | €35 | 4.3 from 14 reviews |
All prices are per person. The listings do not say how children are priced, so look for a child rate on the booking page.
What the descriptions do not say
Life jackets in children’s sizes, shade, toilets, numbers of passengers, how long the drive from the hotel takes and what happens if a child gets tired are missing from all of them. Hotel transfers are included in most of these tours, which helps, but the length of the ride is not stated. Sea conditions can also change a boat programme, so read the cancellation terms.
When it is a bad idea
Long days are the wrong format for small children: the 7-hour Kuriat Islands yacht trip, the 8 to 9 hour El Jem and Kairouan day trip and the 2-day Sahara tour ask a lot of a child in a vehicle. Quad tours are described as thrilling, and their listings give no age limit, so they are something to clarify with the operator, not to assume. See the quad guide.
Our recommendation
- For most families: the two-hour catamaran cruise, as the shortest and best-evidenced boat trip.
- For children who want a story: the pirate cruise, after confirming times and what is on board.
- For a calmer day with animals: the camel ride and farm visit, asking for the carriage.
